Estimated Recharging Time for your Commute

This charge time estimate has been configured based on the vehicle you've selected and the miles you drive per day. The chart below shows approximately how much time it takes to charge with the three types of available charging equipment. Most EV owners will find Level 2 240V charging to be the best option for their daily charging needs. Visit the EV Facts section to learn more about charging options.

Understanding your Charging Options

AC Level 1 Charging (Standard Home Outlet)
Provides charging through a standard 120 V AC plug and does not require installation of additional charging equipment. Level 1 is most often used in home applications, but is sometimes used at workplaces. A full charge may take up to 24 hours with level 1 120 V charging.

AC Level 2 Charging (May Require Home Upgrades)
Provides charging through a 240 V plug and requires the installation of additional charging equipment by a qualified electrician/installer. Level 2 is used in homes, workplaces and for some public charging stations. Level 2 charging is generally required to support heavy daily driving.

DC Fast-Charging (High-Power Public Charging)
This format is used in public charging stations and is typically not available for home use. Provides charging through 480 V AC input and requires specialized, high-powered charging equipment and special equipment in the vehicle itself. DC Fast-Charging can deliver an 80 percent battery charge for most EV models in about 20-30 minutes.

AND electric vehicles don't need oil changes and a variety of other maintenance procedures that gas-powered vehicles require, so you'll enjoy reduced operating costs as well. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates all-electric vehicles cost around 40% less to maintain than internal combustion vehicles.1

1U.S. Department of Energy, FOTW #1190, June 14, 2021: Battery-Electric Vehicles Have Lower Scheduled Maintenance Costs than Other Light-Duty Vehicles

* The pre-set values in the calculator above are an approximation of today's gasoline cost and the estimated cost of electricity for future EV charging for AMP customers. Refer to your own total monthly bills, excluding taxes and surcharges, over the last year to determine your approximate expected EV charging rate.

If you plan to charge your EV at home, you can choose one of the usage categories to get an estimate of your marginal EV charging rate, or you can choose the sample public charging rate if you expect to charge your EV primarily at public chargers.

Customize the vehicle inputs to see what kind of savings you might get on fueling your vehicle when you switch from a gasoline-powered vehicle to an electric vehicle (EV).

Note: The above savings are estimated for customers who have both gas and electric appliances (D1B rate). Savings may be greater for all-electric customers (D1H rate) and those with extremely low monthly bills.
